CDHR COMMISSERATES WITH NLC OVER THE DEMISE OF GENERAL SECRETARY, COMRADE EMMANUEL UGBOAJA ESQ

​The leadership and entire membership of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) express profound shock and heartfelt sorrow over the passing of Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja Esq., the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

​Comrade Ugboaja was an outstanding legal mind, a steadfast human rights advocate, and a fierce defender of working-class dignity. Throughout his distinguished service within the Nigerian labour movement, his unwavering commitment to social justice, equity, and the protection of workers’ rights earned him profound respect across civil society and organized labour.

His intellectual rigor and principled leadership were pivotal in advancing the struggle for fair labor practices and democratic accountability in Nigeria.

​The death of Comrade Ugboaja represents a colossal loss not only to the NLC and organized labour, but to the broader human rights community across the nation. His legacy of selfless service and relentless courage in the face of societal challenges remains an enduring inspiration.

​The National Leadership of CDHR extends its deepest condolences to the President of the NLC, the National Administrative Council, the Central Working Committee, the family of the deceased, and the entire Nigerian working class.
