FirstBank and Eko Hotel Unite to Bring “The Jewel “To Life this Easter

FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and a long-standing advocate for the arts, has partnered with Eko Hotel to present The Jewel—a spectacular theatrical experience set to captivate audiences this Easter weekend.

On April 18th and 19th, the Eko Hotel Convention Center will be transformed into a vibrant, futuristic stage as The Jewel makes its grand debut. Inspired by iconic Nigerian plays—Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and the Jewel and Ola Rotimi’s Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again—this bold new musical reimagines literary classics through dazzling choreography, modern musical arrangements, and cutting-edge production design.

Critics are already hailing the production as “jaw-dropping,” marking it as a defining moment for theatre in Africa. With its blend of cultural heritage and innovative storytelling, The Jewel aims to set a new standard for Broadway-style productions on the continent.

This initiative is backed by FirstBank’s First@arts program, which continues to support creative excellence and provide platforms for artistic talent to thrive. Eko Hotel, a longtime patron of the arts, reinforces its commitment to cultural innovation by hosting yet another landmark performance.

Dr. Iyadunni Gbadebo, Director of Sales and Marketing at Eko Hotel and Suites, expressed her enthusiasm:

“Africa doesn’t need permission to innovate. Through theatre, we can redefine global standards with our unique stories. The Jewel is more than a show—it’s a cultural and economic force. This is a must-watch experience that will keep audiences coming back.”

Together, FirstBank and Eko Hotel are inviting families and theatre lovers to experience an unforgettable Easter celebration with The Jewel—a production that promises to inspire, entertain, and leave a lasting impression.
