NAFDAC Arraigns Traders For Selling Unregistered Body Spray

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday arraigned two traders, Friday Chieze and Nnam Kingsley before the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly dealing, storing and selling unregistered body spray named Riggs.

Chieze and Kingsley were docked before Justice Yelim Bogoro on a three-count charge of dealing in cosmetics to wit: Riggs body spray, without registration.

The prosecutor, Ngozi Emma-Afoke had told the court that the two defendants, who ply their trade at Brono Plaza, D007, Balogun Business Association, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, committed the offences on January 18, 2024.

Emma-Afoke also claimed that the offences violated sections 1 (1) and 1 (4)(a)(ii) of the Food, Drugs and Related Products (Registration, ETC) Act, Cap.

F33, LFN, 2004 and punishable under Section 6 and 17(1) of the same Act.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Following their plea, the prosecutor, Emma-Afoke urged the court to remand the defendants in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) pending the determination of the charge against them.

However, the defence counsel, Kingsley Oyemaechi, informed the court that he had filed a bail application on behalf of the defendants and prayed the court to allow him to move the bail application.

After moving the bail application, which the prosecutor did not oppose, Justice Bogoro adjourned the case to July 1 for ruling.

The judge, however, ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional facility pending the ruling on their bail application.
