Students Raises Alarm Over Scarcity of Water, Epileptic Power Supply

The students of University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Borno State have raised alarm and also expressed sadness over the hardship of water scarcity and epileptic power supply that hit the campus in recent times.

Speaking on this development with the University campus press recently in Maiduguri, Mary Istifanus from the Faculty of social sciences, department of Political science stated that the ongoing hardship that hit the campus may be due to some personal reasons that maybe only known to the university management, noting that, the water scarcity could be as a result of outage of power supply.

Also speaking, another female students Aisha Muhammad, who registered her displeasure over the issues of water scarcity most especially in the famale hostel disclosed that, the situation has led female students to fetching water from places like “Man O War office” and male hostel.

She further called on Students Union Government and University Management to devise a possible means to nib the current problem in the bud.

“Could you believe that am seeing my monthly flow but sadly, there’s no enough water anywhere in the hostel to clean myself up, and I also need to go for ectures, i am confused and sad, “she said.”

Similarly Ahmed Sani a students of Micro biology highlighted that, the problem of elpileptic power supply has called for great concern on campus,, adding that, many students complained bitterly that, lack of power supply has pose a serious challenge on campus, ranging from charging of phones, and other electronic gadgets, stealing of property among other social vises.

According to him, students staying off campus have advantage in the area of having access to constant water supply, noting that, a lot of students have now taken decision of renting apartments outside the campus due to black out on campus and this decision can also endanger their lives because of insecurity in the state

Also, one of the girls who spoke on the condition of animosity lamented that due to epileptic power supply on campus, they hardly go to class to read at night, saying that, she believed after Ramadan period, test and exams may start, and due to this absence of light one can fail exams.

These scarcity of electricity and water supply in the campus has cause great harm, most especially in the famale hostel, students hardly see what to bath, cook, and even wash their clothes. Students of University of Maiduguri are pleading with the university management to look for solution and devise a possible means to reduce this hardship for them.
