EDOSCO reject increment in electricity tariff

Members of Edo Civil Society Organisations were fully present at the stakeholder’s meeting held in Benin today on the proposed increment in electricity tariff by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company.

EDOCSO position was that, the proposed electricity tariff increment should be jettisoned as the power company have failed in discharging their core mandates to the people in line with the various sales and performance agreements entered with the Federal Government. Other customers who were present bared their minds on the gross incompetence exhibited by the BEDC since takeover in 2014.

Majority of the speakers lambasted the BEDC over their retrogressive operations that have plunged the state into total darkness.

In another development, the management of the BEDC had written a petition to the police in order to prevent us from attending the tariff hike meeting. Members of EDOCSO stormed the police state command after stating their positions in rejecting the tariff hike to respond to the petition.

The number that were at the police command overwhelmed the police to the effect that the Police Public Relations Officer was called to usher us in. We announced that, we were all ready to be detained by the police if that is what Funke wanted as long as our people are freed from her grip.

BEDC have been told in clear terms not to increase the tariff from the present N31.27k to its proposed N48.29k effective April, 2020 hence they have not improved in their services.
