Immediate past Director General of National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Chief Silas Agara, has formally declare his intention to contest for the Senatorial seat of Nasarawa North.
Speaking at the All Progressive Congress (APC) secretariat in Lafia, Agara said his ambition is similar to a missionary
journey to make his humble contribution to the growth and development of the state, especially his senatorial district, the Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
He appreciated president Bola Ahmed Tinubu for given him the opportunity to serve as Directors-General of NDE, an assignment he took up sometimes in July 2024 and have been there for about a year and seven months.
” He said” it’s a tenured office for four years. But again, to heed the clarion call of our people, I’ve decided to resign my appointment and to contest for the office of the Senate representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District”.
The former deputy governor, commended Governor Abdulahi Sule for providing leadership to the party and providing leadership to the entire citizens of Nasarawa State, praying for continuous divine and wisdom to steer s leadership of the State until the end of his term.
“And it’s our humble prayers that God will bless him with all the strength and the energy he requires. And for us as subjects and his supporters, as citizens of this great state, we will continue to pray for him and we will continue to support him in all areas within our own capacity in doing so” he added.
Agara also commended the State chairman of the APC, Dr. Aliyu Bello, for providing effective leadership for the rulling party.
“You have been doing your best to steer the ship of your All Progressives Congress here in Nasarawa State.
But again, nobody is perfect. All of us are mortals; we are not perfect. And so, we don’t expect 100% perfection from anybody because we are not God” he said.
He however call on the citizens of Nasarawa State to add value to politics of the State just as he is doing to support the aspirations of others.
He said “I’m not competing with anyone for a stage, the stage is large enough for all of us to be able to show and to prove our worth. And I believe that by the special grace of God, we seek this power from God, and we seek this power from our people in Nasarawa State” .
He paid glowing tribute to the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki who was the Senator representing the zone for his effective representation and landmark project dotted across the zone.
” One of our leaders late Senator Godiya Akwashiki who is no more with us today we have to pay respect to him, he is one distinguish Nigerian, a great Senator of our zone, whose footprint you and I see all over the entire Senator District” he added.
In his response, the Chairman of APC in the State, Dr. Aliyu Bello, said he is delighted to receive Agara in the party office.
”We have listened to you, and we have heard all that you have said. First of all, let me on behalf of the State Working Committee, and indeed the entire APC family in Nasarawa State, congratulate you for the bold step you have taken. It takes a man of courage, a man of vision, and a man who loves his people to resign from a tenured federal appointment to come back home and serve his people at the grassroots level”
” The APC in Nasarawa State, under my leadership, will ensure that the rules of the party are followed to the letter. We will ensure that every aspirant is given a fair chance. We want the best for our party because, as you rightly said, 2027 is a critical year for us” he said .
