Letter to the Editor

Lassa fever killed one in Ogun State, govt call for caution

Dear Editor,

Good Morning to all Doctors and other Health Workers in Ogun state

It is no longer news that LASSA FEVER has again raised the ugly head in our dear Ogun State.

*A case has already been confirmed at FMC Abeokuta.* Therefore our sense of suspicions must be high and universal precaution should be adhered to,strictly.

The ministry of health and all that are concerned already swung into action and situation is under control, no cause for alarm.

Those that had contact with the patient within and outside FMC Abeokuta would be traced and monitored.

They should be educated and provided with the needed material like thermometer to check temperature, phone number to contact when needs arise.

Personal protective materials and equipment should be provided and made available at every point of care in our health facilities

Every health institutions should reactivate the TRIAGE principles. Create a patient screening point at the hospital enterance to screen for suspected cases and holding area for suspected cases.

All the patients that are already in the hospital should be reviewed to rule out any case of Lassa fever.

*Training and education of staff and awareness within the community should be intensified.*

All Health Institutions that have isolation centres should reactivate them, retrain personel and make them ready to accept any suspected/ Confirmed patients

Let me enjoin all affliate heads to ensure that things are done well at their respective institutions and feed back be given to the secretariat on monday.

Thank you everyone for your continual support in repositioning the Health Care System of our dear Ogun State.

Dr Lawal Ismail Akinlade
