Amid rapidly escalating tensions and ongoing military exchanges between Israel and Iran, President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning, urging “everyone” to “immediately evacuate Tehran.” The announcement, made via his social media platform, came as the President cut short his visit to the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada to return to Washington for urgent discussions with his national security team.
President Trump’s directive follows intensified Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s capital, including a reported hit on Iran’s state television headquarters, and retaliatory missile launches from Iran towards Israel. The conflict, now in its fifth day, has raised significant concerns about regional stability.
In his post, President Trump reiterated his stance that “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON,” and expressed frustration over Iran’s alleged refusal to engage in a deal to curb its nuclear ambitions. “Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life,” Trump wrote.
The White House confirmed President Trump’s early departure from the G7 summit, stating that it was due to “what’s going on in the Middle East.” While specific reasons for the evacuation call were not immediately elaborated upon by the President, he later told reporters aboard Air Force One, “I just want people to be safe.”
The call for evacuation from Tehran, a city home to approximately 9.5 million people, has fueled speculation about potential further escalation in the conflict. Israeli military officials had earlier issued their own evacuation warnings for specific districts within Tehran.
The international community, including other G7 leaders, has called for de-escalation, though a joint statement on the matter has reportedly faced challenges due to differing approaches among the leaders. President Trump has stated he is not pursuing a ceasefire, but rather a “real end” to the conflict, insisting Iran must “give up entirely” on nuclear weapons.
The situation remains fluid as regional and international diplomatic efforts continue amidst the ongoing hostilities.
