Oruk Anam Unity Cup Serves As A Beacon Of Engagement To The Youths – Sir Victor Antai

On December 29th, 2024, the Executive Director, Projects (EDP), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rt. Hon. Sir Victor Antai , KJW, graced the 2024 edition of the Oruk Anam Unity Cup as the Chairman of the finals ceremony which was held in Oruk Anam, Akwa Ibom State.

The highly participated annual football tournament, hosted by the Senior Special Assistant to the President of the 10th Senate on Political Matters, Engr. Aniekan Abraham (popularly known as Anisolo), serves as a beacon of community engagement, youth empowerment, and sports development in the region. The final competition, held at the historic Oruk Anam Mini Sports Stadium, featured an electrifying clash between two local teams: Oruk Anam Ward 4 and Oruk Anam Ward 13.

The colorful ceremony attracted a large crowd, including sports enthusiasts, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and youth from across Oruk Anam Local Government Area and beyond.

Speaking at the event, Sir Victor Antai thanked the President of the 10th Senate, Dist. Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio GCON, for his continuous support and commitment to human capital development, noting that his love for his people remains the driving force behind the smiles on the faces of every Akwa Ibomite.

He also commended Engr. Aniekan Abraham for his unwavering dedication to fostering unity and talent discovery through sports, noting that the tournament aligns with the NDDC’s vision of promoting sustainable development and grassroots initiatives in the Niger Delta region.

“The Oruk Anam Unity Cup is more than just a football tournament; it is a platform for nurturing the talents of our youth, promoting community cohesion, and inspiring hope. Initiatives like this are critical to the overall development of our region,” Sir Antai remarked.

The host, Engr. Aniekan Abraham, expressed his gratitude to his Boss , Dist. Sen Godswill Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, dignitaries, and spectators for their support, emphasizing the role of sports in shaping the future of young people in the community. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the tournament and exploring ways to expand its impact in the coming years.

The final match lived up to expectations, with Oruk Anam Ward 4 and Ward 13 delivering a thrilling display of skill, resilience, and teamwork. After an intense battle, the match ended with a 2-1 victory in favor of Ward 4.
