Governor Alia assures Benue NUJ of supports

Benue State Government has assured that it would continue to support the Benue State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to enable it perform their role as journalists without hindrance.

The Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, stated this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in his office, who paid a courtesy visit to the Government House Makurdi on Tuesday.

Iorpev said the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, was determined to collaborate with journalists to work for the development of the state.

Iorpev noted that the Governor himself was happy to understand that the prolonged crisis in the NUJ was over and further assured that the Governor would not hesitate to support the union, adding that with the unity in the union, there was nothing they would not do.

He recalled how embarrassing all Benue journalists felt when the union was enveloped in crisis and advised that the peace and unity in the union should not be take for granted.

Earlier, the new NUJ Chairman in the state, Bemdoo Ugber, said the union was in his office to identify with him and to also appreciate the Governor for his role in bringing peace to the union.

The Chairman lauded the decision of the Governor in approving N75, 000.00 (seventy five thousand naira) as minimum wage for Benue workers and urged him to remain focused in addressing the Benue people’s problems.

Ugber also appealed to the state government to also look into the problem of weigh in allowance for deserving civil servants in Benue State.

While assuring that the Benue journalists would continue to project the good work of the state government, the chairman also appealed for continued cooperation and understanding to enable the NUJ function better.
