Equity market sustains growth, gains N136bn

Trading on the floor of Nigerian Exchange on Tuesday remained positive, appreciating by N136 billion, occasioned by gains in some highly capitalised stocks.Food and travel guides

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.23 per cent to N59.366 trillion from N59.230 trillion it closed on Monday.

The NGX All Share Index appreciated by 225.06 basis points to 97972.33 points from 97747.27 points reported the previous day.

The positive performance recorded during the day was driven by gains in the shares of MTN Nigeria, Unilever Nigeria Plc, Eunisell Plc, Guinness Nigeria, Zenith Bank and other 30 companies.

As a result year to date return went up to 31.02 per cent as 35 firms closed in positive direction against 24 that closed in red.

An analysis of the investment showed that Unilever Nigeria Plc led gainers’ table with 10 per cent to close at N26.95 per unit, SCOA Plc followed with a gain of 9.94 per cent to close at N1.88 per unit, Eunisell Plc added 9.94 per cent to close at N14.49 per share , JohnHolt gained 9.89 per cent to close at N9.33 per unit, Tantalizer grew by 9.76 per cent to close at N0.90 per share.Food and travel guides

On the contrary, PZ Cusson topped losers’ chart, dropping by 9.82 per cent to close at N22.50 per unit, TIP trailed with a loss of 8.70 per cent to close at N2.10 per share, Berger Paint dipped by 7.71 per cent to close at N17.35 per share, HoneyWell Flour declined by 4.85 per cent to close at N4.12 per unit, Conhall Plc sheds 4.50 per cent to close at N1.91 per share.

Volume of transactions declined by 79.402 million, representing 19.21 per cent as investors traded 333.948 million shares valued at N6.421 million in 9187 deals against 413.350 million shares worth N5.836 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 9004 deals.

Transactions in the shares of Access holdings led market activities with 37.842 million shares valued at N910.192 million, Japaul Gold followed with account of 26.487 million shares valued at N60.753 million, Chams Plc traded 23.662 million shares worth N47.902 million, Conhall Plc traded 16.397 million worth N31.471 million while United Bank for Africa exchanged 16.132 million shares valued at N537.971 million.
