NLNG Celebrates Journalists, Honours Prisca Sam-Duru with N5 Million Award

In a remarkable display of recognition for journalistic excellence, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has awarded Prisca Sam-Duru, a prominent journalist with Vanguard Newspaper, a prize of N5 million. This honor comes as part of NLNG’s ongoing initiative to celebrate the critical role of the media in promoting its prestigious Nigeria Prizes for Literature and Science.

The event, themed “Celebrating the Voices of Impact: Nigeria Prizes @ 20,” marked two decades of NLNG’s commitment to supporting and acknowledging intellectual and scientific achievements in Nigeria.

NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Andy Odeh, commended the essential work of media professionals in sharing NLNG’s narrative. Odeh emphasized the significance of Sam-Duru’s dedication, particularly her contributions over the past two decades in spotlighting NLNG’s literary and scientific awards.

“This award is in recognition of your tireless efforts in promoting the NLNG story and highlighting the importance of our contributions to literature and science,” Odeh remarked. He further encouraged journalists to engage in more investigative and in-depth reporting, which can cast light on broader national issues beyond standard press releases.

NLNG’s initiative to recognize media professionals underscores its broader mission of promoting excellence across various sectors, including journalism. The event concluded with a renewed call for collaboration between NLNG and the media to spotlight success stories that drive Nigeria’s growth.

The keynote speaker, Funke Egbemode, former president of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), urged other corporations to emulate NLNG’s example in celebrating journalists. She highlighted the pivotal role of the media in shaping Nigeria’s narrative, noting, “Those who don’t know what to do with the media see us as enemies.”

NLNG, a key player in harnessing Nigeria’s gas resources for sustainable development, sponsors three of Africa’s most prestigious awards: The Nigeria Prize for Science, The Nigeria Prize for Literature, and The Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism, each worth $100,000.

Through these initiatives, NLNG continues to affirm its commitment to fostering excellence, innovation, and intellectual growth in Nigeria.
