Appreciation for Addressing Price Tag Discrepancies and Call for Daily Updates

Dear FCCPC Team,

I am writing on behalf of Consumers Assembly to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your prompt and decisive action regarding the issue of price discrepancies in retail environments. We were pleased to see that, following our recent report titled “The Price Tag Paradox: When Retail Shelves and Checkout Prices Don’t Match,” the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has issued directives for supermarket operators to ensure that product prices are clearly displayed.

Your intervention is a significant step forward in addressing one of the critical concerns faced by consumers. Accurate and visible pricing is essential for maintaining transparency and trust in the retail sector, and we appreciate your commitment to upholding these standards.

However, while this directive marks an important improvement, we believe there is still more to be done to protect consumers from price-related issues. Specifically, we urge the FCCPC to consider implementing a system for daily updates of price tags in supermarkets and other retail outlets. Frequent updates would ensure that consumers are consistently informed of the most current prices, thus reducing the likelihood of discrepancies and potential exploitation.

The challenge of price tag inconsistencies can lead to confusion and inconvenience for shoppers, and in some cases, can affect their ability to make well-informed purchasing decisions. A daily update protocol would further enhance transparency and help build a more reliable and consumer-friendly retail environment.

Once again, thank you for your swift action on this matter. We look forward to continued collaboration and appreciate your ongoing efforts to address consumer concerns.

Sincerely Yours,

Comrade Godwin Anyebe
