The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Lagos State branch is set o build an eighth story Edifice in Lagos for effective and efficient service delivery.
Speaking during turning the sod/ groundbreaking ceremony recently in Lagos, Branch Chairman, CIBN, Lagos State Branch, Peter Ashade who was represented by the branch vice chairman, Adeyemo Adeoye said; “the building which is a five storey architectural master piece with capacity to be raised to 8th floors in the future has an open terrace at the pent floor level would stand on 740 square meters land.”
According to him, “the design proposal has ample parking lot with a generous 18 meters setback to accommodate future expansion. The first floor would be dedicated as ATM Gallery. Considering the property being directly opposite the much-celebrated Mobolaji Johnson Railway Siation, Yaba Lagos, we genuinely believe that human and vehicular traffic would increase and the need to Use ATM in a safe and comfortable environment round the clock will become imperative.”
He further stressed that, “the second floor would be used as Computer Galleria. lt’s noted that Yaba has become the ICT Hub of the state and in promoting the Institute’s core mandate of Capacity building and Examinations, Computer Based Test (CBT) shall be conducted here in addition to lCT trainings to Fintech.”
“the third and fourth floors shall be available for long leases for inferested parties while the Branch would use the 5th floor for its activities.” He added.
The chairman pointed out that, the CIBN Lagos State was established in
November 1963 as Lagos Local Centre of the London Institute of Bankers, adding that, the Lagos centre metamorphosed to become the Nigeria Institute of Bankers and eventually got a chartered status in 1990.
Also, he disclosed that, after the Institute’s registration as a Legal entity in Nigeria in 1977, the Lagos State branch formally took off on 20th May, 1978 as the premier Branch, and they have consistently sustained this role, noting that, the Branch pioneered the creation of other banches which have been established in almost all the states in Nigeria and in the Diaspora as the CIBN is presently in Cangda. U.K and the U.S.A.
“we are proud as Lagos State Branch controls well over 60% of the Institute membership and many Past President of the Institute including the outgoing and incoming presidents are from Lagos State. What we are witnessing today is demonstration of the commitment and
determination.” He noted.
The turning of Sod/Groundbreaking ceremony was performed by President/Chairman of Council, CIBN, Dr. Bayo Olugbemi, and the event had in attendance, past chairmen of the branch, members of council, regulators among others.
