Experts in the digital financial space will lead the discourse in this year’s World Consumers’ Rights Day symposium, organised by the Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) on Tuesday March 15, 2022.
The symposium which has the theme: “Digital Finance: Risks, Opportunities and Challenges for Consumers” is scheduled to take place at the Regent Hotel, 25, Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos by 10am.
The keynote speaker for this year’s event which is expected to attract stakeholders in the Integrated Marketing Communication and digital finance space among other sectors is Dr. Oluseyi Akindeinde, Chief Technical Officer, Digital Encode Ltd. Guest speaker is Bisi Oni, Executive Director/COO, FundQuest Financial Services Limited while Dr Ken Onyeali-Ikpe, Non Executive Director, Troyka Holdings, is the Special Guest of Honour.
To moderate the session is Sola Fanawopo , Co-Founder and CEO eMaginations alongside Mr Monday Ashibogwu of ACSPN (Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria)
Every year, on March 15, the consumer movement celebrates World Consumer Rights Day to raise global awareness of consumer rights, consumer protection and empowerment.
The theme for this year is Fair Digital Finance and, in commemoration of the internationally set date, a holistic discussion will be centered on the peculiarity of Nigeria’s digital financial space in a bid to proffer solutions to some of the challenges resulting from the country’s budding financial technology industry.
Two major paper presentations that are of key relevance to issues currently facing the Fintech Sector in Nigeria and globally are, Digital Finance : Risks, opportunities and Challenges for Consumers to be presented by Dr Oluseyi Akindeinde, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Digital Encode and Bringing the bank to you: The Risks and Benefits of Digital Finance by Mr Bisi Oni. Executive Director /COO Fundquest Financial Services.
Chairman, Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN), Clara Chinwe Okoro is optimistic that this year’s event will create a talking point that will linger for a very long time because of the series of complaints surrounding the movement of money digitally.
World Consumer Rights Day was inspired by President John F Kennedy, who sent a special message to the US Congress on 15th March 1962, in which he formally addressed the issue of consumer rights.
The theme for last year was, ‘’Tackling Plastic Pollution: Challenges, Solution and Benefits’’.
